As usual ACE had a stall at the International Foreigners Day at the Palace de Congresso on Sunday 22nd April. And again, as usual, the club tried to impart an American theme with the ‘Stars and Stripes’ prominently displayed and masses of red, white and blue balloons.
To give a sense of identity and some sort of uniformity all volunteers on the stall were dressed in jeans, check (plaid) shirts and ‘cowboy’ hats. We tried to make the fare on offer typically American, offering, amongst others, bagels, cheesecake, apple pies etc., Drinks available included Californian tequila sunrise, Florida Bacardi Sunsets, Mid-west Mimosas, and, most popular of all, Rita Mays’ special Texas Margaritas.
In addition to the stall the club ran a raffle with a lovely quilt donated by Sandra Delaney as first prize. The girls, led by Jenny Hill managed to raise in excess of 100 euros. Well done.
Very well done also to all the volunteers who helped to run the stall during a very long day, these included Rita Mays, Pat Storey (a dab hand at pouring cocktails)

.Inga Telcs (who had made and donated a delicious cheesecake) Janet Kirkwood ( who made the scrumptious quiches), Rosie and Magda for the deviled eggs, Bryan Hill (barman par excellence) Tom Boswell (who looked after the money and kept the stall free of rubbish) Lou Bordeaux ( calm, unflappable, and an excellent plastic glass put-togetherer ) Rosie Zambra ( who wore the prettiest pair of cowboy boots you ever did see ) and Vera Whiting who came during the final stages when we were all flagging a bit.
Thanks also to Bryan, Tom and Eric who helped in setting the stall up on Saturday evening, and again for helping to take down at the end of the day and return all the tables, stock and equipment safely to the club.
All the bills are not yet paid but we should make a profit on the day of about €500.
Congratulations to Mike for getting the stock, people, etc. organized and working very hard all day. Well done, Mike. You are a star!!
